Promoting weight loss in kids is much harder than it is for adults. Children unlike grownups are more likely to resist diets and exercises no matter how much you explain that it’s for their own good. The lifestyle of our children nowadays is a major reason for obesity.
With calorie-rich foods partnered with non-physical playtime, it’s no wonder that fat kids grow up into fat adults. However, aside from promoting physical playtime, you could get your kids to eat healthy with foods that won’t upset their taste buds. Here is some of the most nutritious food that won’t encounter protests from the youngsters.
Oatmeal
Breakfast is the most important meal both for kids and adult. However, food products for the morning meal of kids are often packed with sugar, colorings and other additives. To minimize sugar intake, try switching their breakfast for oatmeal. It contains iron, calcium and B vitamins, a healthy start to a healthy day. I know kids often resist oatmeal because of its rather drab appearance, but if you put in some honey and decorate with berries, the total effect is enough to get your kids to enjoy oatmeal.
Yogurt
Yogurt contains dairy which is extremely beneficial for a kid’s diet. It contains calcium for stronger bones and the substance can be easily digested by the stomach compared to regular milk. The product now comes in different flavors to attract the masses. However, flavored yogurt often contains sugar so it might be better to stick to plain ones. Check labels to be sure about the contents of the yogurt. To get your youngsters to eat unflavored yogurt, zest it up by adding fresh fruits to the concoction.
Fruits
It’s not hard to get kids to eat fruits, especially fresh ones. You could introduce it juice forms or you could serve it in slices. The point is, fruits are products or primary producers which mean that they contain some of the most basic and natural nutrients needed to sustain growth such as vitamin C and beta-carotene. Try to buy fruits that are in season for variety.
Peanut Butter
As long as it’s not overflowing with oil, peanut butter can be a great source of healthy fat for children. Actually, it’s not just peanut butter but any other kind of nut butter like sunflower seeds. These food types can be easily incorporated in a kid’s diet. Just spread them on a piece of cracker, a celery stick or between a whole wheat bread and you have instant healthy snack.
Whole Grains and Protein
Fish, egg, tofu, whole wheat bread and brown rice – these are only some of the whole grains and proteins that would benefit growing kids. Both contain the necessary fiber and mineral to contribute to your children’s fast growth. The trick is to know which food is best served. Try doing a little research about the food pyramid to get more accurate food products for your children.

Broccoli is one of the most nutritious yet underrated vegetables in history. Even adults won’t touch it. However, with the right preparation, you’ll find that broccoli can be made appetizing for kids. It has loads of vitamins and minerals to aid the body. If you try serving it with cheese, the total flavor is fairly delicious. Don’t forget to let your kids see eat some yourself.
