Training your kids to eat healthy is indeed a challenge for most parents, as they are often influenced by TV commercials about fast foods and other influences that may become more appealing to them.

Putting more vegetables and fruits in their diet will truly make a difference in their growth and in their eating habits. Training them to eat healthy at an early age will also lead them to lesser health problems in their adulthood.

If you want to start with healthy foods for kids, you can select vegetables and add them into their everyday diet. You can also serve them in variety of ways to make them appealing. Fruits and vegetables add a variety of colors and textures to recipes and meals, so you may want to take advantage of that too.

Starting out with the healthy foods for kids, vegetables and fruits, chicken without the skin, wheaties and whole grain, skim milk, frozen yogurt or non-fat ice cream are some healthy foods that you can serve your kids.

You can also make your own recipes and make sure you include the healthy ingredients on it.

Breakfast is important not only for adults but for children as well. You can serve them breakfast that is high in fiber, and most likely, you will get this from vegetables as well as in whole grain bread. Cereals and low-fat cheese and skim milk are also good choices for breakfast. You can also give them the fresh fruit rather than canned fruit juices to get the most nutrients out of it and less the artificial coloring.

A healthy sandwich for lunch is also good for the kids. You can use whole grain bread or whole grain crackers. For your tuna salad, you can also cut and mix vegetables like carrot, celery and green peppers. You can also use fat-free mayonnaise together with chunks of chicken and don’t forget to add the carrots, raisins or almonds for your chicken salad. Peanut butter and jelly are also good choices for sandwiches, or you can serve them with your celery sticks. You can always make healthier sandwiches by adding more vegetables in it and serve it with fresh fruit.

At times, you may need a lot of patience to make your kids love vegetables, so make sure also that you are letting them see that you are also eating them. You can also put a bowl of veggies and fruits like grapes or carrot and celery sticks nearby when they are playing so they will be more exposed to these kinds of food.

Organic fruits and vegetables are also healthier choices for your kids. Aside from being free from pesticides, they also have higher nutrient contents and antioxidants. Keep in mind too that if you want healthy foods for kids, refrain from bringing them to fast foods, of course this part may be quite difficult with all the colorful TV ads, but there is always a way to explain. You can also be creative. If they just love those chicken nuggets at the fast food, you can make your own at home less the fat and too much salt. You can grill chicken breast, cut it into smaller bite sizes and make a healthy dipping sauce.

You can actually make your own healthy foods for kids at home like making a healthier pizza and getting those carrot and celery sticks instead of those salty French fries.

Promoting weight loss in kids is much harder than it is for adults. Children unlike grownups are more likely to resist diets and exercises no matter how much you explain that it’s for their own good. The lifestyle of our children nowadays is a major reason for obesity.

With calorie-rich foods partnered with non-physical playtime, it’s no wonder that fat kids grow up into fat adults. However, aside from promoting physical playtime, you could get your kids to eat healthy with foods that won’t upset their taste buds. Here is some of the most nutritious food that won’t encounter protests from the youngsters.

Oatmeal

Breakfast is the most important meal both for kids and adult. However, food products for the morning meal of kids are often packed with sugar, colorings and other additives. To minimize sugar intake, try switching their breakfast for oatmeal. It contains iron, calcium and B vitamins, a healthy start to a healthy day. I know kids often resist oatmeal because of its rather drab appearance, but if you put in some honey and decorate with berries, the total effect is enough to get your kids to enjoy oatmeal.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains dairy which is extremely beneficial for a kid’s diet. It contains calcium for stronger bones and the substance can be easily digested by the stomach compared to regular milk. The product now comes in different flavors to attract the masses. However, flavored yogurt often contains sugar so it might be better to stick to plain ones. Check labels to be sure about the contents of the yogurt. To get your youngsters to eat unflavored yogurt, zest it up by adding fresh fruits to the concoction.

Fruits

It’s not hard to get kids to eat fruits, especially fresh ones. You could introduce it juice forms or you could serve it in slices. The point is, fruits are products or primary producers which mean that they contain some of the most basic and natural nutrients needed to sustain growth such as vitamin C and beta-carotene. Try to buy fruits that are in season for variety.

Peanut Butter

As long as it’s not overflowing with oil, peanut butter can be a great source of healthy fat for children. Actually, it’s not just peanut butter but any other kind of nut butter like sunflower seeds. These food types can be easily incorporated in a kid’s diet. Just spread them on a piece of cracker, a celery stick or between a whole wheat bread and you have instant healthy snack.

Whole Grains and Protein

Fish, egg, tofu, whole wheat bread and brown rice – these are only some of the whole grains and proteins that would benefit growing kids. Both contain the necessary fiber and mineral to contribute to your children’s fast growth. The trick is to know which food is best served. Try doing a little research about the food pyramid to get more accurate food products for your children.

Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the most nutritious yet underrated vegetables in history. Even adults won’t touch it. However, with the right preparation, you’ll find that broccoli can be made appetizing for kids. It has loads of vitamins and minerals to aid the body. If you try serving it with cheese, the total flavor is fairly delicious. Don’t forget to let your kids see eat some yourself.

Fact is, it’s not hard to get kids to eat healthy. The secret is to introduce it in such a way that it would make the food appetizing for the younger members of the family.
